Summit Racing and Champion 7989 spark plugs

About 3 weeks ago, with all the discussion about the 2-piece spark plugs in our 4.6 engines, I decided to replace mine with Champion’s #7989 conventional design 1-piece plug.

I started by calling around to get availability and prices. Advance Auto Parts, AutoZone, NAPA, Car-Quest, and Pep Boys did not have them in stock nor would any of them try and order a set for me. I then called Summit Racing and talked to one of their sales reps. He said they didn’t have them in stock but they were expecting them in 4 weeks and that they were $4.95 each. I went ahead and ordered a set.

Well, within a few weeks I realized that the price I was given was really cheap and then I read a few threads that Summit had priced them wrong initially. Last week I received a letter from Summit explaining that they had mis-priced the plugs but that they were honoring the order I had placed. They also said the correct price in the future would be $12.95 each (which is less than most places I have heard about).

Well, today my new Champion #7989 plugs arrived (a week early) and to my surprise they also included a really nice black “Summit Racing” embroidered hat with my order as a “thank you” for doing business with them. As for the spark plugs, they look very well made and I won’t have to worry about the crappy 2-piece design ones separating.

“Hats Off” to Summit Racing for honoring their mistake and for shipping them early along with a nice free hat! I’ll continue to do business with them for sure.

I put mine in last week and had a dead miss on cyl # 7 . Checked it put it back in and it still missed, put a stock plug back in and ran perfect.

+1. Thanks for saving me the time to post exactly what you did. Kudos to Summit - they've earned my future business.

I actually missed the mistaken deal by a day, and they told me $15.95 a plug. Thats still cheaper than everywhere else, but $12.95 is even better.

But yeah, summit rules.

Summit is a fantastic company. They are all about customer service and usually once you order from them 1 time you become a repeat customer for life. I have been buying from them for 15 years or so. Wheels, tools, posters for my garage, pretty much everything under the sun that has to do with cars comes from there. Never once had a deal where they didnt send exactly what I asked for, and I even screwed up on wheels once and they let me send them back with no issues at all.
