Default 4.6L shortblock Aluminator

ok so i picked up my copy of MUSCLE MUSTANGS AND FAST FORDS magazine and insode was an article about the 4.6L Aluminator engine block. in the article the guy was swapping his engine for the Aluminator, one problem it was a 2000. now i only have a question, i know its legal to put in a newer than stock engine in your car but not an older one.so here's my question, Is the 4.6L Shortblock Aluminator the 4.6 for the S197 or the "new gen"(00-04)?

I'm pretty sure that short block 4.6's would all be the same as long as you're installing it in the same model car. So a 1996 through 2008+ should all be able to smog legal with the aluminator.
