A good set of cams have netted around 30-40whp. I think they are definately worth doing if you are going to go into the motor for other reasons, i.e. port the heads, stroker, etc. I would reccomend saving a little extra for a set of ported heads and do them at the same time.

Having said that, I have seen quite a few guys do just cams.

people say their arent worth it because they dont provide a whole lot of HP numbers.. i have read you get around 45 hp BUT you also get that great ticking sound.. its the same reason why people get exhaust, they get VERY VERY little gains but they do if for the show of sound. How is it any different from buying exhaust?

The gains mentioned above are very very optomistic. Some people have replaced them and got a mere 20 HP at a cost of 2K. Without a good tune i wouldnt expect more than 25 with a higher stage kit.

Brenspeeds NSR cams have been known to give gains of 20-25 at about half that price.

I've seen 30 rwhp from the addition of cams but it was only above 3,000 RPMs. Anything below 3,000 RPMs ended up losing 30 rwhp. Good bye driveability, part throttle.

I got the BBR cams and they tick like a SOB, and really did not net much of anything. Now having said that I do recommend cams but just get the right one for your set up. If you aren't F/I don't get the ones built for F/I with the thoughts of going F/I in the future.

I am replacing my BBR cams with the Comp cams but I am calling Comp and letting them know exactly what I have so they can steer me in the right direction.

Good luck and they do make the car sound bad a$$

With cams that they say you don't have to change the valve springs or retainers... will get you a little if not tiny amount of power.... and if you do the cams I highly recommend porting the heads and a valve job at the same time... Helps with the labor... cuz labor is gonna cost you a pretty penny....

I love the sound that cams make... if I had money to spare i might do it jsut for the sound....

Good luck...

The labor for my cams install(with tune and springs) was $1100.

I'm pretty happy with my Comp Stage IIIs.
