my buddy said i should use clr to try to get the crap off my rims. he says it wont hurt the finish and well more then likly get the gunk off. has anyone used this or know a reason i shouldnt use it?

I don't know if it hurts the finish much but I have used it on the pad and rims before and it seemed fine to me. I've even used it inside my muffler to get that black out a bit

how dose it work on break dust, and road grim. ive gotten alot and i think its sticking due to the salt on the roads. u think it would get it off?

I've mistakenly found out that brakleen (Brake Parts Cleaner), cleans my rims real good. I was spraying my rotors one day, and was cleaning the excess that was dripping on my rims. It took some of road tar off easily.....But, on CRC web site, it says that its not safe for plastic. But the CRC Carb Cleaner is safe for plastics....

well i only need to do the chrome lip. but thanks for the warning. ill make sure not to get any on the center cap.

No you should not be using CLR to clean your wheels.

Only use pH neutral cleaners on vehicle finishes and rims.
CLR is not pH neutral.
CLR is for the removal of Calcium, Lime and Rust.
Are these substances on your rims and they need
to be removed? If so, how did these mineral deposits
get on your rims?

CLR is Hydrochloric Acid. I wouldn't put it anywherenear aluminum or stainless steel, it will dissolve both. It may not attach paint that quickly but I wouldn't chance it. I use Simple Green diluted half strength with water to clean my rims and tires. Cuts the brake dust with no corrosion to the wheels or brake components.
