67 V8 vs. 05 V6 HP?
Hey guys,
I was looking for some ansers about HP but I couldn't find them on google so I came here...
My friend has a '67 Stang (bone stock with a V8) whiel I have a 2005 (bone stock for now... with a V6). He has wanted to race me for a while and I tild him that my V6 would put out more HP than his V8. He thought I was crazy so bet me on the issue and I was wondering who was right. Keep in mind I know that weight is different and there are tons of different factors in a race but I am looking for straight HP for each setup.
Thanks in advance,
Hunter
I will post this in the section for '67's and see what the response is there just to double check.

I see what you all are saying but I'm pretty sure its a smaller engine. I found a page that shows the 4 engine options for the '67 and the 390 is the largest of the V8's by far. I am almost positive he has a 289 but I am not quite sure which exact engine it is. So I do stand a chance. When I first saw these posts I felt like an idiot but now I see why I made the argument in the first place. I am almost positive he is sitting on a 289, not a 390. Still not sure if I edge him out or not on the HP issue... How many HP would I get with a stock, manual 05' V6?

depends...if it's a 4 speed, he's gonna smoke you...the only auto that was faster than a manual back in the day, was the chrysler torqflite, so if his car is an auto, he won't get as much power to the wheels...but then again, it also depends on what kind of shape his car is in...this 68 pulled next to me and i blew him away, but his car was a piece of crap...my brother thought he'd try to see if he could keep up with my plymouth while drivin my stang and the my mustang was smoked - i wanted to see, also, cuz the mustang feels fast, but the mopar is so big, it doesn't "feel" fast, but my best 0-60 is 5.0 in it (it has some improvements)
however, supposedly a 68 390s 0-60, top speed, 1/4 mile, etc. are approx. equal to an 05 v6...but that's on bias ply tires, stock everything, etc., and almost nobody will leave a car like that stock

Oh, and for the record, I'm not racing him. He just wanted to bet me on the HP issue and I figured I had a fair chance so I went for it, not knowing much about the classic Stangs. Please don't bring up the V6 issue when all I asked for was some stats and HP opinions.

None of you know what you are talking about.. the 67 mustang came with FOUR different v8 engines. Only one of which has 320 hp. That 320hp was rated before the switch to gross HP, so that means it's actual HP number is only 80% or less of 320. Come on guys.
