Gift for my dad (GT 500 hp)
So I just got a huge bonus and Im picking my car up in a few weeks. A company I own shares in was sold and I got a huge bonus and decided to cash in and reinvest.
So I have 35,000$ sitting around and my dad is turning 75 this year and I think it would be nice. Never really bought him anything big before and it's about time I should get on that.
So here's the issue. Id get him an automatic GT (25,000) and install a Saleen Supercharger (5,000).
He has been driving forever now, obviously, and the most pull hge has gotten on a car is 190 hp. I was thinking, at first, wow, he would LOVE this. But would 500-550 HP given to a 75 year old man who has driven pretty slow cars be too big a deal? What's the kick like in a 500 HP car? Honestly, I wouldnt know.
Thanks for the info.

You will probably put a big smile on his face. However, please remember he is 75 and his reaction time isn't what it used to be. If you think he can handle the hp, then by all means treat him to it. But, think about his capacity to handle that much power.

I know HE has driven fast cars and owned a mustang ages ago (72 I believe). I just don't personally know what 500 hp feels like so Its hard for me to judge. It's automatic to help him focus. The guy won't slam on the accel just drive it like a man would, I assume. Just curious to know what the pop of a 500 HP car is like before I buy one for him.

i think a GT will be more than enough to suit his needs/wants. its a very nice gesture either way. but you know him better than i do. 500 HP, especially the roots-blown type, is quite violent. traction is an issue.
get him the GT in auto, he'll enjoy it more probably. put flowmasters and bolt-ons on it, paint some stripes on it, make it look like his 72 mustang.

Congrats on the bonus. My dad is a big Shelby fan, if I had the extra $$, I'd get him a Shelby GT.
Ask your Dad a bunch of questions about the Mustang, what he loves about it, etc. Then buy him the Mustang based on those answers. Good luck, I'm sure he'll love it no matter what.

My neighbor let me drive his 520hp s/c gto, it was my first time driving a s/c car or a car with over 350 hp. I had my gt at the time and i figured id drive it like my gt.. i stomp on it in 2nd... traction does NOT exist. He has stock tires, that could be the reason, but IMO, 500hp is alot to handle.
