Tri Ax Shifter ( Steeda )

RE: Tri Ax Shifter ( Steeda )
I just got back from having my Tri-Ax installed at my Ford dealer. Overall, it's a big improvement, but it does take a bit more effort to shift. You gotta be firm getting in to first, but from 1st to 4th, its great! I had a prob gettin in to 5th till I got to just Ramming it in! Fine then! And theres a bit more noise and vibration with it, but not really objectionable. Havent tried to give it a good run through the gears yet, [raining today], but I think it will be fine. With the old shifter, I went through 1st and 2nd fine, but when I went for a hard shift to 3rd, I ran into a wall. Didnt go in. Pissed me off. I think those days are over now. All told, with the price of the shifter and install, I have about $420 in to this. Pricy, but I'll have a lifetime of great shifts![sm=smiley20.gif]

OK....so how difficult is it to install this thing (the right way preferrably)???? I have access to any tool I want and hydrolic lifts thats no problem (Military Auto Hobby Shop). Can a shade tree mechanic with some experience do this or not because the thing is already expensive let alone the labor but I want one so I can be shifting smoooooooooooth too. [sm=gears.gif]

As noted above, there is a how-to article about installing this shifter (with lots of photos) in the June 2005 issue of 5.0 Mustangs & Super Fords.

Adaquate directions come with the shifter. If you have access to a lift, you can do this. You have to unhook the driveshaft at the front. Be sure to mark it so you can put it back the same way. One thing to remember is to leave the shift nut VERY loose! If you tighten it against its bushings, you will get the Tight Shift problems in 1/2 and 5/R. Other than that, the install is not to be afraid of. Oh, and you might try Calling MM&FF for that back issue. You might have to go get a copy of the latest issue to find their phone number. Hope this helps. Its a big improvement over the factory turd.
