So its time for my first trans fluid change. Im a bit frusturated by how we dont have any means to even check it. Anyways, typically I would have my old childhood friend/grown up Ford mechanic do the work... he has since lost his job and now works at a small shop. The issue is, if he does it, he doesnt have the fancy machine to pump in and pump out all the fluid. He would just be dropping the pan and replacing the filter and refilling I think. He suggested against this because it only replaces about half the fluid. However, I called my local ford dealership to get a quote and they came back with 129.99 but that doesnt come with a filter change... the guy seemed like he didnt know there was a filter. So, is 130 a good price? is it neccisary to replace the filter at 30k miles? would replaceing some of the fluid and the filter be better than just changing all the fluid? Any idea what it would cost to have a ford dealership replace the filter and all the fluid? Any input would be much appriciated. First post by the way, been lurking for a few weeks. Thanks
