Default 87 octane with a 93 perf. tune... what would happen?

hey guys..

tuned by VMPtunning/SCT with a 93 octane performance tune.. and wondering what would happen if i started filling up with 87 or 91 instead of 93... would i get pinging? detonation? i mean whats the worst that could happen?.. its a DD and wont see the track for a while.. (summer).. but i hate to have spent the money on a tune/tuner to return it to stock.. pointless and waste of money.. and i would have tp punch my self when something comes up next to me and wants to run..

so i dont want to return it to stock or whatever.. what do you guys think?

Why even risk it. Get an 87 tune.

you'd end up pinging and you can damage your motor. i was temped to run bama's 89 torq tune on 87, but to be honest even the 87 perf tune from him kicks *** so i've been using that and will use it most of the time - then i'll bust out the 93 torq tune when i wanna play[8D]

if you don't want to spend the money on a tuner to take it back to 87 then you'd be better off just buying 93 gas. You'd have to go through a ton of premium that is only 20 or 30 cents more than regular to spend more than the cost of a tuner.

Or could you just take it to a dealership and have them flash it back to the stock tune?

I wouldn't advise driving anywhere on 87 gas with a 93 tune, unless you enjoy replacing pistons, heads, etc[:@]

Why are you filling up with 87 or 98 anyway? If it's to save money, then switch back to the stock tune or the 87 tune. Seriously, it's not worth the serious engine damage.

Also, do the math... filling up with 93 vs. 87. What is the difference, .20 per gallon? About $3.00 a tank? Eat one less fast food burger a week, and the difference is paid for.

A 87 octane tune is $50, just have Justin make one for you. I'm sure he already has your tune on file so he can just fix a few little things and have it to you asap. If you fill it with 87 you're going to get pinging among other things, not a good idea.

PS: Are you going to buy my girlfriend's Xenon side scoops or what?

Uh, if you fill up once a week, it's more like $20 extra.

Go back and check your charge card or credit card records. A fill up of 87 octane for me costs $20 more now than just 8 months ago. Good thing I only have to fill up about once every 2-3 weeks now. Might go longer with warm weather and the new bike!

...edited for clarity...

The difference between a 87 oct and 93 oct fillup is not $20.....

I think he is referring to just the increase in gas prices overall. Not the difference between the oct.
