^^ No, it is called mechanical advantage because of overdrive gears.
I V8 cruising at 70MPH on the highway is not working that hard because of gearing ratios.

A hybrid's MPG decreases precipitously with increased speed. going from 60 to 70 mph might decrease mpg by 15 or more depending on driving conditions. Once the little gas engine is the sole provider of power.. it acts just like any other car.

With 3.31's the stang gets really good gas mileage on the highway. Crusing under 2k rpms. Boring drive.. but its do-able.

Ah yes, but the incipid Prius has to be hammered to get up the slightest incline [compared to the Stang].. Plus, most of the time in a prius, you're Red lining it in an inane attempt to escape from rednecks and bikers whose aim in life is to eradicate unworthy vehicles from our asphalt, and rightly so [8D]

(Don't get me started on Hybrids either)

Why do you think the prius is so slow? A co-worker has one and it drives just like any other average car. its not fast like a corvette but it not a yugo either.
