3 valve ticking noise when hott?
Well its not a TSb, but i have heard there are more problems than just me. I was working on a new F-150 with the 3 valve engine in it. Customer stated that it made a ticking noise. I listened to it and got the normal tick on start up but it was early in the morning.... So i brought it inside and told the service advisor it was normal
Called the customer and he said it was not like the normal noise he was accustomed to hearing. So i talked to him... said it happens mostly when its hott... So i took the truck for a ride up the highway and back down.... no noise Took back up the highway again stopped at the light and heard a distinct ticking noise Brought back to the shop and heard the ticking noise. Went into the motor for further investigation and talked to the FORD tech-line and was told the Cam timing solinoids have problems and make noise when the engine is hott. So i diag'd everything they told me and actually found it was the solinoid making noise. Ordered one and when it comes in i'll replace it..... So the point is... if you get a ticking noise when the car is hott... maybe the mustangs have problems as well.... Maybe not...But dont Post back telling me youre Mustang ticks upon start up becauses its normal... |
RE: 3 valve ticking noise when hott?
Casper, I have read a couple of different threads on the ticking when normal operating temp. It's not just the F-150 you were working on. The GTs are having the issue also. And so far everyone I have read about having the issue has been told it was the cam timing solenoid. But you are the first I have read that actually ordered parts for it. If it fixes it, that is good info for sure!
Actually, I think that one of the threads on this might have been on this board. Don't remember. |
