I get friggen 12 and I drive conservatively...I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. I don't drive highway ever and its mostly city with some traffic. Is it the stop and go that's killing me?
yes...
highway miles are what gives you the better mpg in these cars...if you run nothing but city, short drives with stop and go you will be 12-17 mpg always and that is babying it....

If I fill up my tank near a highway, then get on and cruze for say half a tank all highway @ 65 i am usually around 28 MPG. once I get off highway that drops drasticly.

on another forums some guys were talking about in manuals only using 1-3-5 gear in the city, its saving them some MPG.

4.7 mi one way commute from a cold start with 4 redlights and 4 stop signs.
Twice a day at least 5 days a week.

Stock GT / M5 / 3.55/ 87 octane = 17 mpg
Stock GT / M5 / 3.55 / 93 octane = 18 mpg
CAI / Tune / 3.55 / 93 = 19 mpg
CAI / Tune / Aluminum Driveshaft / 3.55 / 93 = 20 mpg
CAI / Tune / Aluminum Driveshaft / 4.10 / 93 = 21 mpg

Cant guarantee its all the mods as the mileage ranged from 2000 mi to 8000 mi.
Car may have been loosening up.

I took off in 1st with 3.55's and progressive shift to catch the next gear between 900 and 1250 rpm.
I took off in 2nd with 4.10's and progressive shift to catch the next gear between 1000 and 1200 rpm.

I generally average 22-24 mpg with 66% City, 33% Highway, and 1% Dragstrip.
My highway mileage is generally the trip to the Dragstrip.

i've avg 22.2 since i bought the car.....according to the computer. using the hand calculation; i've got it figured more like 21.....but it's a 5spd with 3.31's; and mostly my driving is coming from 10 miles out in the county into town; then about 10 miles of city driving......

I drive in town and do it for fun. I don't make any effort to conserve fuel as I could care less. I average between 9 and 12 mpg.
5 speed stock (except for exhaust). I use the old pen and paper method between fill ups.
Sometimes though I use the info center and reset my mpg indicator while sitting at a red light and average alot more.... Until the light goes green. Weird...

On your MPG computer in the car, is it better to reset it every time you start your car, or will you get a better (more consistent) reading by not re setting it at all and just leaving it alone?

It gives you a reading since the last time youreset your computer. If you want a current reading, then reset it. If you want an average over a trip, then reset it before you leave and then dont touch it till you arrive at your destination. If you dog your car out and get 13mpg then reset the computer and draft semi trucks on the highway, you will get 30mpg. Then if you get on it, it will start going down. It just calculates the miles from last reset and the fuel consumed since last reset. if you want to make yourself feel good, reset the fuel and not the mileage and trick the computer into thinking you are getting really good mpg.
