Replaced my fender badges with something a bit more interesting

I just bought my Mustang last week, and wanted to immediately change out the GT fender badges. After doing some forum research, I had seen someone else use a Ford V8 badge that I also wanted to do.

Here goes…..

I warmed up the badge area with a hair dryer. Not too hot to the touch, but just to soften the adhesive. I used dental floss to try to “saw” behind the badge, but the floss kept breaking.

Then I tried using a “fiber stick” (what we call it in the auto industry), really it’s just a plastic tool you can get at any auto parts store. I GENTLY pried up, and slowly moved my way around the badge.

Then using WD40, and then alcohol, I got the area clean and wax free. (note that alcohol will not remove the adhesive very well, and using WD40 alone will leave a residue on the surface which is bad for adhesion)

Here is the badge in the package (with the PN shown)

First I held it in place to see how the holes would be covered.

I noticed the chrome was just too bright, so I made them a satin finish by glass beading them in the tool room at work (a little at a time, gently). It worked better than expected and will match my incoming Bullitt grill well (which has a satin surround).

I held it in position to cover the holes, and used post it notes to set the position. Then I peeled the backing, and barely set it on, stepped back to check alignment, then pressed fully to seat it.

All done, and I think it looks good.

nice! i really feel that any of the emblems (pony or gt) on the fender really disrupts the flow of the car, the cobra on gt500s seem to go nicely though.
