RE: Opinions on Carmax trade in price?
I live in the DC metro area too. (Norther VA) and I average between 9 and 13 mpg.
20k sounds pretty good to me. How many miles do you have? I have an 07 as well with 5k miles and will eventually trade it in as well, (but only to buy another mustang or a vette...) I was thinking I would only get about 17k though so this is good news to me...

good that you've done your homework.
The Mazda3 doesn't get 30 mpg unless you baby it at 60 or so. It's a nice car but I found Mazda fudges its mpg #'s. Personally, I'd go with the Honda Civic coupe, maybe a late model one, as I can't stand the looks of the Fit, but if you want to save $$$ and need the 4 doors that could be better for you.
Did you try for a trade-in at Honda? I wondered if that could get you a better deal.
