Default Turbocharger

from the look of it, its cheaper and produces more HP than a S/C, whats the catch?

I am obviously partial to turbocharging but I would be very hesitant to claim that turbos are better than superchargers. My turbo is working well for me, but I might be achieving the same results if I had the right supercharger setup...no way for me to know?

Turbos don't always have lag and when they do it's not what people crack them up to be. Most people accuse turbos of having terrible lag because they're just partial to a s/c.

There's nothing wrong with a turbo...and it does sound great. The difference is that the turbo makes power over what the motor does, while the s/c robs a little power from the motor to run. Now, that doesn't mean it's slower, but it's one reason why some people choose turbo over s/c.

It all depends on what you want and the sound you'd like to hear. Do you want the s/c whine? Or do you want the forced air and spool of a turbo w/ a blow off valve?

It doesn't sound like a bad application.

Turbos can make more power, easier, than a sc setup, but they're usually more expensive. The whole "lag" thing is a joke - why don't you ever hear comments about centrifugals needing several thousand rpm's to start producing significant boost (they do)? It's no different. And it keeps you from blowing the tires off the rims. I've had a turbo car, a roots car, and 2 centri cars. They all have their good/bad points, but a turbo always has the most potential. And they sound very cool.

crazy as it may sound, one of my best friends is running a kenne bell in his mustang and a twin turbo in his 06 GTO. he swears that GTO is more fun and faster than the 06 gt w/ kenne bell. i know that turbo can yield amazing results, look at the EVOs and STIs for proof on that. i guess when as is said and done, i still have my heart on a whipple
