Quick update in case anyone is interested. Finally the top has been completely replaced - Ford sent the new top to the dealership. It took 2 days to get it replaced then had to take it back on 2 separate occassions because it wouldn't retract all the way. It is now 98% back to normal but will need more time in the hot sun to get it to stretch so that it will retract 100%. As for the replacement itself, Ford made a design switch to help alleviate the window rubbing issue. There is more reinforcement at the initial point of contact and the vinyl itself does not "wrap" underneath as far. I cannot get the window to hit the top now that it has been replaced. Hopefully awareness of the previous problem and the new design will eliminate this happening to me again.

Default rag top wear

I got mine in April (2008 GT) and already have what looks and feels like a dent in the top. You can almost see though the top layer. (Its a cloth top) It sure looks like it has got that way from the ribs or somewhere on the mechanism. Was this a recall? I am due for my oil change too, and will ask the dealer what they will do.

mousetankmike,
Where is the dent on the top. I've had mine since October, the passenger side window chafes a little no sign of wear yet I'll keep an eye on it. Cloth top as well. Should def be covered by the warranty. Hope it all works out for you, let us know.

I would like to see the photos too. I took mine in for an oil change and had the top looked at, they said the wear was not typical (Mines wearing in the middle of the top) but would like to see the other issues jut in case they try to wiggle out of replacing the top for the wear I have another issue to fall back on.

Ok, I took mine in today and showed the service mangr. He said Ford will definetly not replace the top. He said he will try to put some padding where the mech. rubs on the cloth. I said it is almost all the way through. He said he knows that Ford would just send it back saying that it would be "over repaired" if they replaced it. I said this is a defect and that it will probably wear all the way through soon. (In 3 years, right?) Then, what? He understands where I'm comming from. ??? If someone can explain just how to post pics, I will give it a shot.
