Default Add motor mounts with Headers??

This may be dumb question, but: Why change out the motor mounts when adding Headers?? They hold up better, more clearance, makes it look better.. Explain this please..

For almost any header install the stock motor mounts are removed or atleast loosened. So why put old ones back on when you can replace them while you are at it. It saves labor that way. Added benefits are less tendency to miss 3rd gear, additional clearance for the headers and the car "feels a little tighter" if you like that type of thing

is it hard for the stock mounts to hold up with the headers added on??

Tendency to miss 3rd?? Why would adding the headers cause a miss in 3rd??

hehe, i'm learning here..

missing third is a natural occurance in the car, nothing to do with the headers. The only benefit the new mounts have directly dealing with the headers is clearnace issues. Otherwise the mounts have other purpse like i have mentioned.

Default RE: Add motor mounts with Headers??

Just to add something here, I was told on the phone by a Motorsport/SVT authorized Ford dealer that the FRPP shorties require changing out the mounts so you get extra clearance. Not much but it helps, like an 1/8 or 1/4 inch. He said what was happening was that the steering linkage, when making a hard turn, could bind, or get caught on the header, in effect, locking up your steering. He said any header install he does he changes out the stock mounts to Steedas. (Also, an FRPP shorty header/ mount install was about $1100 for parts and labor!!! Ouch!) Anyway, I contacted the FRPP tech rep hotline, and the rep said at one time changing mounts was needed, but all of the new headers out of the factory (from last year on) are made with the clearance issues corrected.

What is the difference in these mounts? Is it that they are taller? Or is it they are made of urathane to reduce movement or "torque twist"?

generally a tad shorter and yet stiffer reducing the binding or roll or the engine and transmission
