What is an autocraft center? Never heard of it.

Same here. I'm REAL interested if such a place exists around here. I'd love to have access to a lift.

I believe he is military. In which case such a shop is available on most military bases, where you can work on your car and use their equipment for little money.
For example on my base, the lifts are$ 1.50 an hour, and the tags for tools are one buck an hour. Usually I end up paying about 5-10 buck whenever i go there to work on something. Be it oil change, or balancing my wheels.

btw, I feel the OP when he talks about the " wrenches " in those shops. They have no freaking clue what the hell they are doing. Last time someone asked me if I needed help, I told him " yah, can you go buy me a soda ? "

eddypython, exactly.
here it's 2 an hour for a lift. 1 an hour for a flat bay. tool access is free though, you just have these tags you give em per tool.
gets to be a REAL pita when i need different sizes for an impact or torque wrench.
the only thing that i let them do today was put the strut assembly into the compressor.
definitely one of the perks of being military and loving cars
