Just when you think you have the world figured out...
So my new 08 Pony has 500 miles on her...figured it was time I called the insurance man.
I just bought a 08 premium pony (sorry guys, did not want the 8)...and it was exactly thr car I wanted. I was preparing myself for the insurance call...even though I am pushing 40...I figured it could be ugly.
After a the 2-3 mins of VIN and other misc questions, the rep read back my new premium. "What!" I replied...
I was at $509 every six months for full coverage and normal deductibles for my old Hyundai and my wife's ES330. I add a Mustang in exchange for the Hyundai (a 4 cyl no less) and my premium drops to $421 every six months.
So moving up to a Stang saved me $160+ a year. I just paid for the gas mileage I lost! Joy!
I did ask them (USAA) as I was sort of confused. He informed me that in addition to individual driver liability, they look at the likelihood that "a car" will be involved in a claim...and he said the Mustang is at the very, very bottom of the list.
Hmmm...go figure!

Actually the mustang Gt costs about 5k a year over an economy car to run, and a v6 costs about 2k a year. that did not pay for the mpg you lost.

Actually for me...it does pay.
I averaged 28 on my last car and it looks like I am going to averge 25 on this car (my first tank was 25 mpg). I only drive about 8-9k miles a year...so that covers the difference.
Not that I care...the Mustang keeps me grinning all day long at work. Not many cars can do that!

Most Hyundais are bought by new drivers or first time owners and are made from recycled Korean beer cans, hence the higher insurance for them.
But just feel the weight of the Mustang's door versus the import's (actually almost any import or economy car) and you'll feel much safer.

A lot of people opt for the V6 because of cheaper insurance. The savings probably aren't much when you compare gas, or cost (new V6 and one or two year old GT are about the same).
However, there are tremendous savings when comparing GT and V6 insurance! I can only dream of paying that little for car insurance and I have NEVER had a ticket in my life.
My Corvette is quite a bit cheaper than the GT to insure, even though it still bluebooks for more! Go figure. V8 Mustangs must be one of the more expensive cars out there to insure.
Enjoy your new car!

-driver side window went off the tracks - thus no power window driver side and would go down on uneven pavement.
-turn signal snapped off
-driver's side door handle snapped off
-master cylinder blew - driving with a blown master cylinder for a month wasnt fun
