2007 GT 5MT Questions
I'm considering the purchase of a 2007 Mustang GT. I'll be buying used with 10k-15k miles on it.
I've been into imports and have only considered imports after some bad experiences with domestics. I currently drive an Accord V6 which is practical and decent performance-wise, but becomes boring after a while...especially with the limited aftermarket. I did restore a 65 Mustang with my dad when I was much younger.
I'm not in love with the new Mustang styling-wise since I think the retro stuff is getting somewhat old, but I can't deny that it offers most of what I'm looking for at a reasonable price. I do think I can modify it to fit my tastes with suspension work and nice wheels.
Are there any known problems on the 2007 GT 5 speeds? Or, are there any feature differences on the 2008 that would make it worth the extra money?
What kind of real-world fuel economy are you getting with this engine/trans combo? If I were to drive it normally in 50/50 city/highway, can I manage low 20's MPG? Or, should I expect 17-19 MPG?
Any other information will be appreciated.
Thanks!

RE: 2007 GT 5MT Questions
I have an 06 GT 5-speed with 20's and drive 50/50 and manage 21-22 mpg without a problem...Not sure since I own an 06 but I don't think there is a huge difference between the 07's and 08's. Good luck and enjoy!

RE: 2007 GT 5MT Questions
2008 all have airbag seats.
Slightly different PCM that MAY adapt better to 93 octane (+5 hp is the same thing the powertrain engineer said at the 2005 intro as well).
2007-2008 the 3.55 gear is optional and not standard. (Not availble on Deluxe in 2008).
2008 have different spark plugs that are fully threaded and so do not have the plug seperation issue (Caused by carbon build up).
However if you run good gas and replace the plugs early with a one-piece such as Brisk or Champion that is a non-issue.
Performance:
CAI + Tune + 3.55 + Good Driver + Good Air = 12s in 1/4. Best stock I have witnessed is 13.2 (1.8 60 on stock tires)
MPG:
Stock 17/27
CAI/Tune 18/29
Spydershaft 19/30
4.10 Gears 20/27

Thanks for the good advice. I typically try to search, but I was having problems with it not returning any results with common search terms.
I'll test drive one tomorrow. 12's with a few mods sounds good.

They had some major issues with the site a few weeks back. Search is generally a no go.
You usually have to use a work around with Google.
They generally dont feel as fast as they are. The factory tune is pretty castrated.
It has throttle rate limiting which only allows the throttle to open so fast.
This generally makes the car feel much slower when you punch it or after a full throttle gear change.
This is why a tune is generally the first change guys make. It may only add 10 rwhp but it feels like 50.

Well I own an 07 gt with 5speed and 3.55gears. I bought it new and only have abou 13k on it, it feels like its just about broken in.
Besides the pasenger side airbag recall (30min at the dealer and its done)
The only other issues I have with my car is I cant seem to keep my foot out of it. If I dive sensibly you will get the 20-22mpg out of it with a 50/50mix of highway and city if not more.
The other things you should be aware.
The two pice shaft clunks, its normal and its not that bad. It only clunks into the first two gears if you are driving slopy.
The plugs are two pice, so use good gas and change them before the waranty runs out. Some dealerships will extract them at their cost if you have them do it.
Everything else is tight.
Funny you should mention switching to imports because you had issues with domestics. It was the opposite in my family, we drove nothing but European cars and some japanse and we never seemed to breack 150k miles on them withought major work. We switched to domestics, and all our old sold off vehicels had over 200k at least that were truble free with regular maintenance.
I personaly think this body style is the most unique looking car these days period. I have had guys with exotics stare at my car and they liked it.
The aftermarket is plentifull of show + go parts and anything inbetween. There are members here with over 100k and I belive there is even a member with over 150k miles of completly truble free driving.

RE: 2007 GT 5MT Questions
The MPG you get in this car is VERY sensitive to your right foot (true of any V8). If I try and maximize on the highway I can get into the low 20s but normally around town I'm in the mid to upper teens, due entirely to the way I drive (lately however I have found myself short shifting a lot). On one 150 mile trip I averaged 8.3 MPG! Of course that was around the Pocono North circuit, hitting 120 coming out of the banking on turn 3.
+1 to what Gene said - to me, stock the GT feels slow. An aftermarket CAI and Tune makes a big difference, the power hits much quicker and harder.

RE: 2007 GT 5MT Questions
We took our '07 GT for a 180 mile round trip excursion on the 4th and averaged 22.5 mpg - doing 70 mph and cruise control. I expect the car will do better on gas as soon as she gets some mileage on her. I've owned it since August of last year and the odometer reads 3,728. We are quite happy with the car and I must say the "look" of the car is the REASON for buying one.
