Tire swapping gonna hurt the TPMS?
Hey guys,
I want to order some take-off wheels and tires for my GT. I don't plan on using them too often. Just want to put them on in the weekend for some races because my 20's are slowing me down.
Will it damage the TPMS if i leave the 17's on for a long period?.. (i assume, the low tire pressure lightwill be on)...
Should i order 2 stock tires and wheels and some mickey thompsons or just 4 stock tires and wheels?.. We don't have a track overhere (i'm not in the states btw),so everything happens on the street...

AS far as the TPMS, no, it won't "hurt" it.You'll simply have the annoying light come on. However, when you put the stock wheels with the TPMS back on, it's possible the sensors in the wheels won't be recognized by the system and again, annoying light until you have them recalibrated.

I put one on as a spare last week. It recognized it.It still remembered
the OEM sensor. So I dont think that the SJB forgets the sensors.
Only until it is reprogrammed to another new sensor.
The workshop manual says nothing about forgetting unseen sensors.
Wouldnt that be a Ford authorized service centers nightmare.

Only my 20" wheels/tires will have the sensors, the take-off set won't.
This means nothing bad can happen right?...
If i plan on selling my 20's later, is it possible to take the sensors off and put them on my 17's?

It possable to reinstall the sensors on the 17s.
You will need a TPMS sensor band kit.
They are readily available from TireRack and such.
Be sure that they are re-installed correctly on the 17s
and advise whomever is demounting the 20" tires that
there are TPMS sensors inside the wheels to avoid
damaging them during removal of the 20" tires.
You can read all about it here:
