I've tried finding aftermarket units with build in hard drives for uploading mp3 files, I read a review that the pioneer unit lets you do it but you have to rip the files while listening to audio cds at accelerated rate rather than just copying from an mp3 cd. Anyone have a recomendation for a unit that not only performs gps well but allows you to upload standard mp3s from a data disc?

IS THE OEM NAVIGATION ANY GOOD?!?
I have the OEM nav in my 07, it's fine. Anything specific you want to know about it? We also have factory nav in my wife's Honda van. Some things I like better about the Ford system, some things I like better about the Honda system.

The main thing I like abouttheOEMsystemover aftermarket units is the factory appearance. It's more expensive than aftermarket though- a $2k option. Here's a picture.

The new Ford system with Sync and Sirius traffic/weather data looks terrific though, would love to have that system!

Kevin.

I have the Pioneer Avic Z1 with the Z3 upgraded HD I liked it soo much that I bought the Pioneer Avic Z2 for My Escalade and upgraded the HD to the Z3 HD. When you rip the tracks the sound is not accelarated that is false it does rip them accelaerated but the sound is at normal speed.

Both Kenwood and Pioneer look great but how do the power compare with the OEM Shaker500 ?
I know, both of the should have 4x50W but how they are in real life.

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/fabr...ps-indash.html <- this man did it first and is looking at making a turnkey solution to a carpc

as for mine
is a msi fuzzy board with a c2d mobile proc
2g of ram
320g laptop harddrive
onboard sound and video
the screen is a xenarc 700stv that i cut the front bezel to fit into a trim kit

the pc is in a aluminum chassis attached to the trim kit to make a oem like setup its bolts into place with out any mod the the car at all i even used the trim kit wireing harness to hook the speakers, subs up i have a dc-dc power supply thats made for carpcs hooked up to the radio circut it only draws a max of 15 amps so it fits very nicely, it sees when the ignition is turned of and starts or shuts the comp off accordily. i have a amp that powers the 4 reg speakers under the passenger seat and have a usb hub in the center console with a power switch (incase of lockups) and a valey switch to keep the comp off while the ignition is on. so no one can mess with my Carpc but me

my reason being is that i can't stand the gap that aftermarket units leave in the radio well. i was looking into car pcs and see if they make a screen able enough to fill out the entire area out, just like the OEM navigation unit.

No its terrible! Every car I get has a factory installed gps and i can tell you with confidence that the Ford one is by far the worst. I dont have one in my mustang, but I have one in my F-350. I didnt get the mustang with it because it was so bad. I installed an Eclipse AVN 5510, and let me tell you, I am extremely picky about my nav systems and the Eclipse is faaaaar superior to any oem nav out there maybe with the exception of Nissan/Infiniti. The Eclipse has never got me lost and its directions are very easy to read.
