Steeda Tri Ax shifter...who LIKES it, who HATES it?

I've lived with mine for two days now, and every time I shift it, it reminds me of dragging a stick through a bucket of rocks. Theres a distinct double "crunch" at each shift. And when I first used it, it had a tendency to go from 1st to 4th. Now, I have to pull it slightly to the left when I go for 2nd. It seems ok in the center of its range, [3rd and 4th], but at each end [1st to 2nd, and 5th and reverse] it seems tight. And it also has a bit more vibration and shift effort than the stock piece of crap. I DO like the more positive shifts though. What do you guys think? Right now, I'm at number 5. Be honest and try to tap in to your true feelings. This should be interesting!

I have a tip that seems to help. When I park the car, instead of leaving the shifter in Neutral, I leave it in either 1st or 5th. That seems to put pressure on the bushings and seems to make it shift easier. Folks having trouble with this shifter might try this.

whoever installed it installed it too tight. I have the SAME EXACT problem as yours. Loosened the bolts, BAM feels like it was oiled.

Which bolts are those? Do you mean the one at the end of the shifter that actually goes to the tranny shift mechanism? I heard that that nut had to be tightened to JUST take the slack out to work right. I told them to set it up that way, but dont know how they really did it. Is this the one you mean?:)

The nut that holds the link from the tranny to the shifter shouldn't be to tight. The two metal bushing will bind up if it is too tight.

yes, thats what i mean. My installer actually left like 1mm gap between it. Cant really tell, but it feels real smooth.

Thanks for the tip. By the way, do you know if that nut is accessable without dropping the driveshaft? My dealer put the shifter in, but it will be up to me to tune it! Also, Ide kind of like to put an old style Hurst T Handle in it. That stock knob kinda sucks. Not sure if it would look out of place in there, but sure would be nice to hang on to. Especially with the increased shift effort the Tri Ax has. Have any of you good old boys put a T handle in one of these yet?

Changed my mind on the T handle. It must say GT or have a 5 speed pattern on it, and not look out of place in the interior. And I just found out that no one is making a shift boot yet that doesn't attach to the knob, T handle, or ball.[&o] Also, Im still looking for such a T handle. Does anyone know of one?
