yes manuals are so great , lets compare how many people blow manual transmissions to automatic transmissions .
not to mention not having to shift every 5 seconds every time you drive.
the point is , manuals are fun for about a week , which is enough time for you to realize how unpractical they are.
and try getting remote start on a manual

I've never blown a manual tranny, my Mustang and both trucks are all manual and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Automatic transmission technology has progressed more in the last 10 years than it did in the previous 30. The 5R55E in he Mustang, when setup right with a 3000 rpm stall converter and modified shifts will work better than any manual on the drag strip.
I'm probably gonna get flamed for this but ask any serious drag racer they'll tell you they are using an automatic. They are consistent and easier to control. The 5R55 has very close ratios for a lower rpm drop between gears than with older 3 and 4 speed autos and with the fully computerized control system it is a lot easier to dial them in than it ever was with a mechanical valve body.

Just buy what you prefer, on the street there isn't much difference. Not many people can outshift a machine, however. A good tune on the auto makes it pretty beastly.

Untuned auto vs. manual = manual win.
Tuned and modified auto vs. manual = automatic win, unless the manual has a great driver.
I don't know how many times I've heard the "I missed 3rd" excuse from my ricer auto-bashing friends. It's almost like my friend's Integra doesn't even have a 3rd gear? [8D]

Dude, almost every automag and blog has recorded times for 0-60 quarter mile etc etc times for GT's with auto and manuals. (Just google it.) Ford even does their own stats which claims 4.9 0-60 with either transmission.
No point in really debating which "feels" faster or whatever - heck my Toyota Tercel feels fast as hell and could probably smoke a GT500 in a drag race... but oh wait I just looked it up and it looks like the Tercel runs the quarter mile in like 24.4 seconds and the GT500 does it in around 13. Wierd... coulda sworn that Tercel was way faster when I tried counting how fast it runs a quarter mile.

What kind of racing are you referring to???
In a drag race they are about even. While the auto makes for a slightly heavier car there will be no mis-shifts.
But when it comes to road racing I really will have to give the advantage to the manual. I recently had 2 imports on my tail as I was cruising up Mulholland past the famous Rock Store and while I had enough HP to blow them away once I was exiting a turn, they had a sharp advantage going into each turn and would be very close and filling my rear view mirrors!
The auto doesn't downshift going into a turn and will not do so until you get off the brakes and back on the gas. I was shifting it manually too, but the delay is significant, like when going from 3 down to 2 for a sharp turn.

Plus whenever you drive a chick, she will definitely notice your skill if your good, especially if shes driven with a ****ty manual driver before.
If you havent realized what im trying to say here, my point is that autos are sooo boring to drive, idc if an auto is faster or not, its just boring for me! I like to be able to practice my shifting and get better everyday, whether its perfecting heel toeing or launching, there is always something to do =)
Oh and your talking about how many more trannys are blown....i bet you autos have a lot more transmission proned problems than a manual tranny. The ONLY reason i could see this flipflopping is if someone is learning how to drive stick for the first time or they just plain out suck and never really learned how to drive it correctly and constantly grind the gears etc....

honestly there are days when im in my buddys 01 LS1 and its a stick and im liek uggh wish my car was stick...but then when i get in ym car whihc is a auto tuned and some mods...it chirps both 2nd and 3rd gear...and it hauls ***.....so to tell you the truth if you live in a crowded area like I do in NY alot of traffic from time to time I would get a auto If you live in the country where theres not much going on ..I would do manual....but hey its your choice man...auto is easier no shifting but manual is funner as how it feels you control the car completely.....its 50/50
