Default Tips on removing headlamp lens for painting?

I've only been able to find one tutorial on removing the lens. It says to use a cutting tool to cut it out completly around the edges. You can easily see the lense's edges from the outside of the car through the body work, and I think it wouldn't look too good. Is there some other way to remove it?

The adhesive seems to be the kind that's heat activated, but I'm not sure. I'm 100% though that this is a better way of removal. Does anyone know if you can do this? I don't want to cut up the lenses of my pristine mustang.

Heat gun, or set your oven to175 and let them bake up a bit and then pry them apart starting at the bottom.

I love the mustangforums!

You can tell you know what you're talking about because you say very specific things.
