Default RE: CLEANING CAI

Question. I just got the K&N cleaner kit and rinsed my filter twice as instructed. I noticed some dirty water coming out. Should the color return in the filter (came reddish looking) or will it stay the dirty blackish color? When I washed it the color stayed the same dirty looking, does that mean its clean?

When I had a K&N some years ago, I remember that the red color comes from the oil that you spray it with. The process was to fill a bucket with water and the cleaning solution and dip the filter into the bucket of water/solution (without letting the water come in from the top) rotating/agitating it repeatedly until clean. Any remaining oil/dirt will be washed off at that point and you'll be left with a clean filter. Let dry completely, re-spray with several light coats of the oil and reinstall.

It probably won't be completely white again but once you re-spray with the oil it will turn red...

Alright thanks, I will be oiling it today once I have time and we'll see if the color comes back at all.
