RE: Had my 4.10s installed today
I also think it has a lot to do with "heat-treat" like someone else here said. I had FRPP 4.10's installed which seem to be heat treated. I'm not going to get off of them at this point. I beleive in babying my ride to an extent but couldn't stand it. It wouldn't take me a yearto put 500 miles, but a week at least .
They're doing well now at 50+ miles. I'll keep hammerin' them! I didn't buy this cheap hot rod to baby it...

RE: Had my 4.10'
Don't want to steer you wrong, War. with the 4.10's I'm now purring along pretty good at 70 mph. If you do a lot of highway miles it would probably get annoying real fast. When I go FI I will definitely go back to 3.73/3.55 but for now the 4.10's are ok.
At low speed i wish I had more gear. At 70, uhhhh,,, like my truck it's a lot.
If you ever plan to go with some kind of FI I would recommend staying with 3.55. If you already have 3.31/auto, then by all means go 3.73 ford racing gears which I think you can run all the way home w/o a problem.
You'll like the extra gear but it's no great thing. A little extra pull.
Save your money for some kind of forced induction, my opinion.

RE: Had my 4.10
I like all of you who talk about 70 mph...hell i cruise at 80 with no complaints at all about extra sound from exhaust or the extra gas mileage!! Most places if you are not going 75+ you will need to be in the slow lane!
I fully admit is personal preference on how much you want to have you rpms at though and some of you dont like the added noise.
either way you will like new gears as the added kick in the pants feel is very good.
