Had my 4.10's installed today
My first though was "why the hell didn't I go with 4.30's!!??". Then I hit the interstate. Humming 2500rpm in 5th at 70. Contrary to what I've read, first gear is still alive and well.
How should I break them in? They are chilling in the garage after the 10 mile ride home. I figure another couple of heat cycles then I can take it to em' right? |
RE: Had my 4.10's installed today
yeah....most shops also say to lay off for a couple hundred miles also. Others have installed and then took to the track on the same day with no issue. I guess it depends on how safe you want to play it

I would heat cycle a few times before beating on them;)

What size tires are you running?

I didn't wait at all. I got on it out of the parking lot:D
Been around 4-500 miles an no problems.. |
RE: Had my 4.10'
I just want an all around good driving gear. I'm not planning on drag racing, but I do want to enjoy going through the gears around town....and not be going 45 when I get to 3rd gear. I also don't want my highway rpms to be outrageously high. I don't do a lot of 75+ driving, but I don't want to lose the option.

RE: Had my 4.10'
Texas Drivetrain Performance...where I got my gears put in...told me to wait 500 miles.
Haha...I hardly drive my baby [we take the wife's car with the kids] and in over a month I still haven't broken them in[8D] |
RE: Had my 4.10'
Couldn't stand it. After two cooldowns last night I rolled out of first and then floored second gear. There wasa huge smoke cloud rising behind me. lol!:D
Nothing broke and the gears are still silent. Good install... |
