Heating up the car??
How long should i heat up my car before using it??
In the winter i would wait until my rpm's would drop below 1k usually taking a lil while but in the summer time it's already hot and it only takes a couple seconds to get below 1k
A long time ago i read in a magazine that if u turn it on and go right away it could harm the engine??
Is this different for iron blocks or aluminum??

RE: Heating up the car??
These modern cars are ready to go pretty soon after starting. The technology is so good. I do the same everyone else has said, waiting till the rpm's drop, and I also accelerate really carefullyuntil the temperature gauge is up around the middle. That is probably more caution than is necessary, but I want my car to last forever. It kills me to see someone start their car first thing in the morning and immediately pull out without any warm-up time.
It is amazing the difference between starting and driving my 07 Stang as compared to my 66 Galaxie.

Start the engine, wait for the rpms to get off the fast idle circuit, in my auto's case around 750 rpm. After that, you are wasting gas just sitting there. Do exercise restraint when driving until the temp gets up to the operating temp. Once the engine gets off the fast idle, you have ample oil pressure and circulation so just drive it normally. No hot rodding on a cold engine.
