are those 285/40? i cant even find a 285/45 that was mentioned. the 285/40 has a min rim width spec of 9.5", so IMO its still a bit bigger then one would want, especially if your concerned with cornering.

RE: Need rear tire size reccomendations
I was going to ask a similar question so instead of starting another thread I hope you don't mind that I piggyback on this one.
I have the pro-kit with 275/35/18 and 10 inch rims. American Muscles website recommends 285/40 for the 18 X 10's. I saw Falken RT-615 with a 295/40 and along the same lines, I think wider looks better too.
Does anyone here have anything wider than 285 for the rear? If so, how is the fitment? Thanks in advance.

285/40 fit perfectly wth a 9.5 rim, gt500 runs that
honestly for a DD, i wouldnt cram anything over 265 and maybe 275 depending on the sidewall. You are asking for problems since the rim is not really wide enough for the. They are great for track use but not driven everyday 20-40 miles

Those tires in the pics are 285/40...not 285/45.
I used to run 295/45/18 on 18x10 rims. Lots of guys do. No problem at all.

You have to think about sidewall height too. A short sidewall will bulge a lot, but a taller sidewall can handle more bulge.
It also depends on the brand of tire. I have 255/45/18 Goodyear Supercars, but they don't seem to be any wider than the stock 235/50/18 BFGs, even though there is "supposed to be" about 4/5 inches of difference.
I also saw the GT500 at the local Ford dealership, and it's tires don't seem to fit well at all. On the front, the rims seem to be wider than the tire. Maybe the Goodyears just have a skinny footprint.

Of course you could go with 275/40/18 about 26.6" tall, and if you matched them with 255/40/18 about 26" tall.
Many tire choices in those sizes, as well as a wide range of prices, just another option.
