RE: New Edge v.s. S197 in the twisties
I ad a chance to run at VIR and chased down a GT500, 2 termies and a CTS-V and hung right there with them in the turns
here is the Video.. Oh and I have an automatic

I think the S197 does quite well for a solid axle, the weight ratio being 51/49 Front / Rear helps as well

With respect though, it doesn't seem like it was seat-of-the-pants pace though. If you could hang with the Terminators, they weren't trying or they need an extreme driver mod.

great video at the track 2k05gt....looked like alot of fun, No chance in the straights though. Any mods to your ride or is it stock. What did it cost to get out and do that? Oh yeah and what kind of speeds did you get up to in the straight aways? Thanks.

Handling wise, the S197 is better than the new edge GT/Mach 1/Bullitt stock for stock
Against the 99 and 01 Cobra and Terminators you can only use skidpad and lane change data as these are controlled tests. Test driving a termi vs S197 or chasing one down a road course makes the driver mod the biggest factor and doesn't reflect the car's true handling potential.
From Road and Track
Ford SVT Mustang Cobra 2004
60-0 Braking: 121 ft.
SkidPad: 0.88g
Slalom: 65.6 mph
Ford Mustang GT (2005)
60-0 Braking: 125ft.
SkidPad: 0.86g
Slalom: 65.4mph
The difference here is totally a function of the tires. Put the same size wheels and tires on both and the S197 would be ahead.

Regards the 2k05gt video: either this was some sort of follow-the-leader deal or the guy in front is a real a-hole. My guess is its the former - but if not...thats a text book example of how to **** people off on a track. Classic, you get a guy with a fast car who cant drive worth squat but floors it on the straights. Thats a video from a mustang club so Ill give the dude (the guy in front) the benefit of the doubt but if that was at an open track day youd have some really POd people.
By the way, if anyone is interested TrackDaze.com is holding a 2-day at VIR on Aug 28th, 29th.If you like driving cars fast this is one of the most fun things you will ever do in your life!

I know I'll catch heat for this, but the IRS in new edge cobras was an afterthought. It was shoehorned into a 25 year old platform and was a huge disappointment to ford on the track. I'm fairly certain that the only reason it ever made it into the car was to justify the $$ spent on R&D for the setup. Having said that, I'd still trade a ******** for a terminator, but I'd swap a solid rear axle in right away. (I'm a drag strip guy)
