New Edge v.s. S197 in the twisties
I understand that with some modding, the S197 can be formidable on the track
With some modding, can the New Edge (cobra) be just as good??
just wondering
thanks in advance

RE: New Edge v.s. S197 in the twisties
There is a big difference between the New Edge and the New Edge Cobra. I would say the IRS and spring /shock package on the Cobras would cream the S197s, stock for stock. I have never driven a Cobra so I can't say for sure.
The difference betweent he New Edge GT and the S197 to me was pretty dramatic. I've owned both and the S197 was far superior in every way; braking, handling and acceleration.

the s197, even the gt500, can't touch the terminator in handling.
the 2v gt and the mach1, however........

exactly. the only mustang ever with IRS (i think?)
live axle MUCH better for drag racing. IRS hooks better on regular tires at higher speeds, but with sticky tires you can't beat a solid axle at launch.

thanks for the answers, guys
fortunately, acceleration, handling, braking, and stuff liek that can be helped with mods
unfortunately, however, comfort, gas mileage, and the good stuff that makes a great DD are a bit more difficult to mod

Yeah i test drove a 03 Cobra even though i knew i couldnt afford it. Let me say it was an experience. Getting off the interstate without downshifting was amazing. The salesmen knew nothing about stangs......he was a truck guy. I drove that car like it was stolen then jsut waited for him to say they couldnt get my payments into my range. LOL It def felt better than my car and hittin boost right out of the lot.

the s197, even the gt500, can't touch the terminator in handling.
They tested the gt500 and termi around either laguna or willowsprings. The driver liked how the termi felt better, but the gt500 had the faster laptime by nearly 1 sec and faster lap time by about 1mph.

i have to say, i love my 08, but i've also loved the 03-04 cobra since it came out. when it approached the time to buy one, i was stuck between 3 options.
-gt500 (great price at 45k out the door!!, but couldn't get past the grabber orange convertible)
-03-04 cobra (black on black fr500s......but sadly couldn't fit, or i'd like a "gangsta leanin wayyyy the _ _ _ _ back)
-08 gt (at 27k for a mustang gt with 11 miles, i realized, i could customize this however i wanted and i'd have a blank slate to work with)
i've found that on the turns, the s197's are very stable and feel very solid....there seems to be a lot of room for driver error, but you can almost always pull it back (knock on wood)
