Default How do you remove black gook from SS exhaust tips

I boought a used Pypes Mid muffler system with SS tips. The tips have black exhaust residue buildup I want to clean off. I tried SS polish, chrome polish, mineral spirits, and goof off. I want to keep the nice finish, so wire brush or 3-m scotch brite padsare my last resort as they will leave scratch marks.

Any solvents or other ideas to remove it?

Are you talking about the inside or the outside of the tips?

Brasso, or Never Dull.

I'm in the Navy, so I know a thing or two about shining stuff!

Good thread. The bottom edge of my tips are beginning to develop more buildup and I was wondering the same thing.
