Something else I didn't know !!!
I've always had this feeling that when the cruise mode is engaged, and I give it some gas to get by somebody quickly, the motor seems to be less responsive.
No great sweat, i figured that manual throttle input is filtered through the cruise system or something. Anyway, fast forward to today. I needed to take it off the lift, turn it round and reverse back on again (so I could get to the other side). So, I'm reversing up my drive and onto the ramps, all is ok until i see something has fallen in the way, so I pause while my son moves it from behind the car. As he bends down out of sight I figure I'll give her a little rev to jiggle him up a bit. WTH? A throttle response so spongy it almost feels wet, and no WHOOP from the Whipple ! Uh-Oh ! I try again, but nothing but a slug like response from the throttle. So I knocked it into neutral and tried again to be rewarded with a lusty rev and plenty of Whipple-Whoop. 1st gear? Also Fine. Back into reverse and it dropped right into sponge mode.................... So what's that all about? Is it a funky safety thing to stop us all blowing the motors up during banzai reverse manouvres? |

It probably is a safety measure!! I never noticed it on mine though!! Maybe i should try it sometime!! Maybe they dont want you doing burnouts in reverse.... or going back too fast and hitting something!!

It's subtle I know so I'll try to dumb it down for you.
I was linking the cruise power restriction with the reverse thing and asking whether this was a normal nanny-mode thing I didn't know about or maybe something screwy with my tune? Despite the fact that I'll do what the Hell I like with my own car even though it might upset some newbie, I don't actually recall saying that I was denied reving it to 6,000 rpm. But hey, let me re-read me post, maybe I missed it.... |
I didn't know about the reverse thing but I WAS aware of accelerating beyond the CC speed setpoint. The car seems to fight you on the acceleration. I either disengage the CC or use the "+" button if I don't intend to resume at the previous speed. I've been meaning to check the manual...

I can only get up to i think 4k rpms going in reverse and it just bounces

yea, put the car in reverse and floor it. kinda amused me for a bit at first.
make sure you dont crash into anything. |

In the days of hard mechanical throttle linkage plus cruise control, you could bull your way into opening the throttles more than the CC wanted. Not that it was good to do that, just that you could. ETC has taken most of that option away, and under some circumstances that is probably not a good thing. For that reason, I've almost never used mine (once to make sure it worked plus once through a tightly watched speed zone is all I can recall). Now, let me get this straight. I back mine from the street up the driveway and into the garage most of the time and I have never noticed the spongy pedal that you are talking about. I don't get to use the cruise control enough to know if mine is having the same problem there.
