Default Headers and Motor Mounts

Are motor mounts necessary for short tube headers?
Anyone have shorties (which ones?) with or without motor mounts?
Any rattling?

I want to get shorties, but $200 for motor mounts is almost as ridiculous as $140 for a gas door.

A little off topic but, what are shorties good for? Do they add any performance or are they mostly for sound?

There are performance and sound gains. Shorties will add horsepower and torque, and will generally (from what I've read) move the peak torque lower in the powerband.
Here's the BBK installation article with the dyno numbers at the end.

As far as sound, the headers will put more of a distinct glub-glub-glub sound in the exhaust note at lower to mid rpms and a nice flutter when decelerating.
Listen to this stang with long tubes. You can clearly hear a distinct glub-glub-glub sound when it begins to accelerate. It's not quite this pronounced with shorties though.

LT's are out of the question for me, I think.

LT's make the car really loud.
LT's might not pass emissions, and I can't afford to get them taken off and put back on just to get an inspection sticker.
It's really hard to get an exhaust setup to sound good with LT's because they sound so raw.

Well **** if I had a GT I'd want my car to be so loud that it'd wake the dead LMAO but, you have a point with the emissions thing so yea Shorties would probably suit you better bro. I hear good stuff about the BBKs...and about the price for fuel doors...I hear you LOL
