4.10's...

Well after the problems i had with my first set (really bad installer) i got a whole new set and had them installed by real professionals and all I can say is WOW!!! Here's just another guy telling you people who are on the fence about 3.73's and 4.10's to just bite the bullet and get the 4.10's right now! What a pleasure the car is to drive now. With the stock 3.31's the ride was terrible. Before if I was driving in traffic and had to slow down to like 5-10 mph I'd always have to just about stop the car and throw it in first because starting from a roll in second wasn't really an option unless you really like to ride the clutch. Also before everytime I shifted it seemed to just be running on 4cyl until you hit that 3 grand sweet spot. Now when you're just cruising around and shifting it seems to find that sweet spot almost imediately... what a difference. It's just nuts how all the stupid little problems with the car not having any balls down low are just gone. This mod is even better than cai/tune imo. I hopped on the parkway on my way home and cruising at 75-80 the car was around 2700 rpm. Can't beat that! And it's even got great passing power in 5th now at those speeds. Anyway I'm done ranting. If you have a 5-speed you need to go out and get these now haha.
Btw, I got these installed by Joe Heck Racing and I have to say they were really great guys to work with. Really nice people. I was guaranteed they wouldn't whine and they got them done in about 4 hours without a single problem. Their installer told me he's worked on fords his whole life and as quick as he installed these I'd believe it. If you're in the monmouth/ocean county NJ area I STRONGLY advise you get it done with them. I don't really trust anyone with my car but after the job they did with these I'd got to them again in a second.

I love my 4.10's except for one thing. To all you guys (and the poster) watching this gears post. Do you notice more "play" in your drivetrain now? I can feel/hear some odd clunks and such which don't really disturb me that much due to the fact that my truck made the same sounds after 4.56 gears installation but I attributed that more to the locker rear end I had installed.

I get some thunks every now and then that I never noticed with the 3.55's. I also have a one-piece driveshaft so that may have something to do with it. More drivetrain play for sure.

I've also heard someone say that 4.10's appeared to "add" a gear. For me, it seems more like I've "lost" a gear. 5th gear is more like 4th gear now. Not a problem because I don't go over 80mph EVER on the street but just had to clear that up...
