The 4.10 gears won't tear at the car anywhere nears as much as downshifting into first at 30 mph. I can't tell you the difference between the 3.73 and 4.10 gears (I haven't driven a 3.73 car), but I can tell you that the 4.10 are AWESOME when compared to the 3.55 stock gears.

i guess i can't rule out the 410s then. i'll be sure to leave that open for when it is time to upgrade gears and rebuild my rear end.

If and when you downshift make sure you match RPM's so that there is less strain on the car!! And to r3velation always do what you want!! If you want 373s then do it!! Specially if you plan to supercharge in the future i heard 410s are too much and 373's are perfect!!

If you are in third gear going 50mph and you want to drop second gear, push in the clutch, and as you are moving the shifter into neutral, blip the throttle up to the propper rpm then move the shifter into second and let the clutch out. If you do it right, the car will not shutter or shake and you wont kill the drivetrain by shockloading the h3ll out of it. It takes some practice, but its fun once you get the hang of it. Its called "rev-matching".

ok i figured if you can match the rpms its all good but i may be wrong because ive downshifted into 1st for right turns or like into parking lots.... 3.55s at parking lot speds in second dont sound as nice as 1st... ha but im getting 4.10s soon so ha ha ha ha HA

I still wouldnt downshift into first even if you are rev-matching. I don't think the synchros for first gear are as good as the ones for the other gears because its often tough to get back into first gear unless traveling under 10 mph (and I have 3.31s). I think if you want to go into first gear over 20 mph you would have to double clutch to get any sort of smoothness.

Please tell you why what? Why i like to down shift? ITS FUN its throws the front end up.

I think i will get 4.10's. Will that just make it accelerate faster in the first few gears? Do you have to shift before or after once you get gears.

Sweetness! As a first time m/t owner I did not know this. I will say in the past I have had some pretty nasty shake in the past.
