You can get a CAI without a tune. But you will not get a quarter of the HP from it that you could with a tune. Can tunes are nice. If you have a local shop that can custom tune your car for $100, which is a good price, that should include data logging your car on the road, or dyno to find the best tune for your car.

A CAI without a tune WILL cause you to run lean at full throttle. I know I saw the data log from my car with a BBK CAI installed and no tune. I was 20% lean at full throttle. Good thing I never blew a cylinder.

If you get a tune, also get a tuner. This will cost about $350 more for the tuner. This will let you change the octane the car is tuned for and other thinks too. Latter on you may what to change your gears to 3:73 or 4:10, change the tires to a wider or lower size. ECT. Some shops may sell you the tuner and custom tunes for $350, if you also buy the CAI and have them install it.

Stuff to think about.

The tune is 90% of the performance gains , CAI 10% that way you can choose whatever one you think looks the best, but if your only going to do one, dollar for dollar its a no brainer, Go 90%

Any intake that has a MAF housing with a larger diameter than the stock one will require a tune. If you get an intake that has the same diameter MAF size as the stock one you an run it just fine without a tune.

Stock MAF size is 79mm I believe, the popular aftermarket intakes range from 83mm to 95mm.

Can you buy the aluminum air intake box that comes on the Shelby GT that says Ford racing on it? I like the looks of that one.

I know Ford sells the plastic one that come on the Bullet.

I got the C&L street racer tune combo from Doug at Bama and it seems great. Had the tunes in the mail in about 2 days and the parts in 3 or 4. Ordered on Monday had everything for the weekend install. No problems and he was great at communication and help explaining the tunes

I got the FRPP one (same as Steeda minus the Ford Racing sticker) with the Steeda plastic inlet elbow. LIke it alot.

Previously had a JLT 2 one, just didn't like it.

I'd say any CAI that requires a tune is good, they're probably all equal. I guess its what looks better? ,( even though its under the hood)
