Launching an auto at the strip...
Hey guys, taking the stang to the strip for the 1st time this week. I was just wondering to those with autos whats the best way to launch it. I'm worried about traction since I'm still running the stock 17" Pirelli's. I have a hard time with traction if I even get on it a little bit. If I stand on it, I just spin the tires.
Any tips are appreciated. Oh, I have a C&L intake, Bama race tune and 3.73's

With the stock tires and 3.73's + race tune, it'll be hard to keep from spinning. deflate the rears to around 22 psi. Inflate the fronts to about 45 psi (less rolling resistance). Avoid the water box if you can. Do a quick spin of the tires to clean them off. Stall to about 1500 RPMs. Let off the brake as soon as you see the last yellow (not when you anticipate it, when you actually see it). I wouldn't drop it to the floor instantly, as you'll probably end up sideways. I would say your pedal should travel to the floor about 1-1.5 seconds from launch. So, a quick but modulated pedal drop. You'll probably bark in 2nd, but you shouldn't need to let off the gas. Having never raced an auto, though, I'm not sure what to expect when 2nd hits.

Considering I can't race for **** yet, I've been working on holding the brakes and pressing the gas to about 3000 rpm( i have 3000 stall converter ), let off the brakes and push the pedal down as fast as I can until I find the sweet spot to keep the car from spinning.

We'll see what happens. Weather permitting I'm going Thursday night. For my first run I'll probably launch at 1000 and then go kind of easy on the gas until I start to hook up. Should be... interesting.

Good luck. I didnt have that many traction issues with just the C&L and a Bama tune on stock 18s. Story changed with 3.73s and stall converter, but thanks to the transaction with smythge, my traction woes should no longer hurt me.

Darkfire sounds about right.
I just put the brakes to the floor, build up the revvs as far as they will go before breaking the tires loose, and let off/floor it an the same time. I get incredible traction with my race tune... a chirp is about it and a chirp into 2nd.
I'm sure your 3.73's changed that though.
and this is off topic, but by any chance do you have any videos of your 3.73's accelerating on your automatic? I can't find one anywhere and i'd love to see the difference.

I may have a video of my auto w/3.73's beating an '07 Mustang manual w/3.55. I pulled on him all the way down the track. From a dig..his 60' was still better by a few hundredths. Once I hit 2nd & then 2nd-3rd, I started pulling. I beat him by 4-5 car lengths. Raced him twice that night. His friend video taped the race...just waiting for him to get it uploaded somewhere. We're up at 5000' with the DA at over 6300. I ran 14.2 & 14.3, he ran 14.8 twice.
