stock rims with Mickey Thompson ET Steets (3743) bias-ply gets me 1.60 times consistently at 500 RWHP.
It is basically the wrinkle wall slick with two treads cut in it.

My car came with 18" fanblades that had a +50 offset, my "Beyond" wheels are wider and have a +45 offset. To me it seems that a little more meat on the tires would cushion the daily driver as well as help at the strip. Just as a reference, I am running 255/45/18s all around but you can probably go as wide as 285 on the back. Hope this helps.
Sorry about the typo, I meant to type 295. I have never seen any tires wider than 295 on a Mustang, though this is just around the Atlanta area.

At the track I run black 17x9 Bullitt knockoffs all the way around, with 245 series up front, and 295 series Mickey Thompsons out back. I'm N/A and have cut 1.59 60 fts with the 5sp and 4.10 gears. I've tried the taller 28" M&H tires, but while they really hook just as good, you really have to work the clutch and dump at higher rpm otherwise the car bogs trying to get that larger tire rolling. I think I got a 1.67 60ft with them though. Anyhow, I've come REAL close to lifting the front tires with this heavier combo, so I doubt I'll ever spend the money on real drag wheels like Bogarts, unless the lower cost 15" Greg Weld wheels that purportedly fit our S197s ever materialize...

Good news is that the tire/wheel combo is good enough to drive around town for fun, or to the track. But I tend to stick my street tires and wheels on anyhow when I'm not racing...

Paul I would get 2 17" black bullits to match, and the 275/50/17 M&H.
I just ordered 2 17x9 fr500's to somewhat match the 18" CT'R wheels I run.
It looked a little funny before with fanblades on the front, and bullits on the rear at the strip, lol.

I have seen 315s on our cars in person. They look great, very mean. It was actually a turbo black gt with 20s lol.

how good can the 20's really hook with good tires?

i need new rear tires anyway for the 20's,maybe have 5k miles left on them. im not sure what to do,lol.

1) keep 20's,buy good tires
2) switch out 2 18" bullits with good tires
3) just get some stockers for the rear and good tires (still will need new rears for the 20"s)

id keep the 20's if i could find a good 20" tire that will hook good at 450hp.
i really do like the look of the 18's with bigger tires

what to do,what to do,lol.
