Default Fog Lights - Do they make a difference?

Hey guys,

I really like the fog lights on my 4wd truck, they light up the "side of the road and improve visibility.

I had an idea to add foglights to my mustang, but then I got to thinking... The hood is so long, I wouldn't be able to see a difference in the light output.

So, if you have the GT foglights or the V6 pony package foglights, do you use them, and do they really make a difference?

The lower they are, the more efficient the get.
The GT and V6 pony are not doing the job IMO.
It's more like having 4 head lamps...

Low to get UNDER the fog and illuminate the road surface instead of the fog thats in the air directly in front of the vehicle.
Ford placing the FOG lights up so high in the grill was
an apearance feature more than a function feature.

Yep, the GT fogs were added, (see sig) not for looks but
to help the already low output OEM headlights. The GT fogs illuminate
the area around the front end and the headlights illuminate the area
right in front of the stang. Makes navigating dark turns easier.
Now PIAA make a 520 and 40 series lamp that will mount where
the GT fogs openings are in the GT grill with a special bracket.
StreetScene also makes a DRIVING lamp that is the same
housing style as the OEM GT fog lamp assembly.
I would venture to guess that the small PonyPackage fogs are
mainly for looks and do not perform that well in foggy conditions.

The Sylvania SilverStars help out and are better than the OEM bulbs.

I think they help... they're not very useful under normal nightly driving, but if you're out in the country or somewhere where there's no city lighting (like I had to deal with in Texas) they aid dramatically. 'Course if it's foggy they do help, too.

I would venture to guess that the standard GT/PP fogs work a bit better than the center fog grilles, but I really don't know for certain.

I notice a small difference... Enough to give me more comfort when driving at night.

I have the HIDs in my headlights and fogs and the difference is like night and day when I use the fogs (no pun intended)
