Default Changing from 92 octane to 87octane

Hello,

I own a mustang 2007 manual with CAI C&L Tune 92 Brenspeed.

I been running my car with 92 octane and after reading the manuals it says that the recommended is 87 octanes, i have some questions regarding this.

1.- What do i need to do to go back to 87 octane gas ?
2.- I will hurt something doing this ?
3.- If manual states 87 is recommended and i run 92 can i hurt the motor ?

Obviously i need to have the 87 octane...

Thanks

You have a tune that requires 92 octane. Therefore, you should use at least 92.

1. You can load a different tune that requires 87 octane (the original octane requirement for the factory tune). If you got your tunes from brenspeed there should be an 87 tune preloaded on your Tuner.

2. No - unless you drive hard with 87 octane in the tank and a 92 octane tune. You should use the octane that's specified by the tune. Using 92 with an 87 tune will not hurt. Using 87 with a 92 tune can damage the engine.

3. No - but you're wasting money.

1.- Yes i have the 87tune from brenspeed.

2,. So to change from 92 to 87 i dont need to empty the tank and then start loading 92 octanes or just in the next load i can load it with 87 octane ?

3.- So im not earning anything loading 92octane, i will be ok loading 87 octane ?

Load the 87 tune and drive it. Next time you need gas, get the 87 octane. Higher octane tunes provide better performance. It is up to you to decide if it is worth it to you.

Your car now has the "engine" for the Shelby GT which Recommends 93 octane actually. You're not longer running a stock car, the manual no longer applies to the engine exactly.

1.- What do i need to do to go back to 87 octane gas ?
a new engine management software tweak, or your engine will go into minimum mode (in the past it would simply try to explode, not so any more).
2.- Will I hurt something doing this ?
no.
3.- If manual states 87 is recommended and i run 92 can i hurt the motor ?
not possible. it could "stun" your cats after 5k miles, or "foul" them after 20k if you didn't have the Shelby GT engine but that's not the case, and those aren't part of the motor even and that's the only thing that could ever possibly happen.

Obviously i need to have the 87 octane...

the 92 tune has been shown to improve gas mileage and horsepower, there is no reason to go with an 87 tune unless your car doesn't like it and weird things are happening.

Since you're running a 92 octane tune, the statement in the manual about 87 octane does NOT apply. You're fine running 92 octane with with a 92 (or lower) octane tune.

IF you want to run a lower octane fuel, you'll need to load a lower octane tune. I assume that, since you have a Brenspeed 92 tune, you also have other tunes in your handheld. But even if you weren't running a custom tune, 92 octane would not hurt your engine (although you wouldn't benefit from the additional octane).

In other words, you can run higher octane fuel than the tune calls for without harm but not vice versa.

As far as changing tunes for different octanes goes, when you first download a tune to your car, the tuner will upload your factory tune (87 octane) to the tuner, so you can revert back to stock.

The way I did mine, I ran the 87 octane down to almost empty, filled with 93, then downloaded the 93 octane tune to the car.

Later I decided to change to the 87 octane performance tune (not the factory tune). I did the same as previously stated, running the 93 to almost empty, filled with 87 and downloaded the tune.

I then needed to take the car in for the recall and didn't want any problems from the dealer, so I switched out my CAI for the stock intake and downloaded the stock tune to return it all back to stock.
