Default Spray tint on tails?

Which one is most commonly used and gives the best results??? I am going to pick up a spare set of tails from a buddy, and would like to spray them.

For those that have done it, what are the steps you took to get a quality finish??? Not sure if maybe some sanding, clear coat, etc. etc.

someone give me some ideas.

i used vht niteshades but i took a differant approach then most people. i didnt want the glossy finish,i wanted more of a matte finish to match my stripes. basically i just put several coats on did a little wet sanding, then a coat or 2 of clear. i am more than happy with them

use the vht nightshades...works great!! put on as many coats as it takes to be as dark as you want it but make it a little darker as you will wet sand some of it out...after the tint is dry wet sand it with 1500 grit sand paper with a sanding block to keep a relitively even sand then wet sand again with 2000 grit...once it is all sanded and smoothed out polish it with a low speed orbital buffer with a nice eurothan polishing compound..i used blue corral products...once it is polished you are done and it will have a nice gloss finish

-prep lights with soapy water.
-spray lights with vht overlapping 50% assuring wet gloss look when applying.
-make sure application is in low dust area
-allow 5-10 minutes inbetween coats
-Use a clear laquer or clear coat and apply 2 -3 coats in teh same manner 5-10 minutes after you just sprayed vht.
-Allow overnight to dry and wet sand with 1500,2000,2500,then 3000 for best results.(careful on edges)
-Use any rubbing compound after that and go to town if you don't have an orbital no big deal.
- after 1-3 times using the compound give it a good wax with a normal polish.

Remember if it does not work properly use a laquer to remove the paint. You can find this at an auto supply paint store.

I've not done anything yet. But I'm falling into the "not permanent" camp. I might not like the result. Worse, the police might not like the result. I'd like to be able to easily undo tail light/relector/signal ting. So I'm thinking about going with autobadges.

^ I'm in the same boat as you, however my boy just sold his mustang and is giving me his old set of tails (he had some aftermarket tails when he sold it).
