245/45/19s would fill out the wheel well better as they have a diameter of 27.7". The factory tires are 27.0" - 27.3" diameter depending on whether you have 17s or 18s.

275/40/19s would be too wide for 8.5" wheels. But would fit great on 10" wide wheels and still maintain a 27.7" diameter.

Default 19 in tires

f you are using 8.5" wide rim this translate to: 8.5 x 25.4 = 215 mm wide. so to keep the stock rear tire dia of about 27 in you would need the following tires size:

255/40/19: because 255 * 25.4 =10.03" * .40 = 4.015" x 2 = 8.031 + 19"= 27.03" which is exactly what I am using, pirellis Pzeros

a 255 width tire equates to approx 10" wide tire

so a 10" tire on a 8.5" rim leaves you with about 1.5" of tire . then / 2 side = .75" of tire shoulder on each side of the tire. take then about 1/2" of rim lip with on each side and you got about 1/4" overhang of tire on each side of the rim. Perfect so that your rim lip is not exposed beyond the tires rubber protecting the rim from curbs and other obstacles....this how I calculated the tire size I needed so that my speedometer did not go crazy with big tires....did not make this up. it really is straight forward math.....
