Default Towing with the S197

A couple of weeks ago, I requested information about towing with the S197: https://mustangforums.com/forum/2005-2014-mustangs/479258-towing-with-the-s197.html

svt93style offered to give me a hitch, and I accepted. Thanks, Mike! Mike even crawled under my Mustang and installed the hitch. What a great guy!

Now, I know what some of you think about a hitch on a Mustang, but some of you may need to know about this, so I'm writing this message to report back my experience. As I stated in the other thread, I needed to haul some things I inherited from my parents the full width of Texas, and the only car I could use for this is my Mustang. I explored other options, but this was the most economical, especially in light of Mike's kind offer to give me his hitch.

I rented a U-Haul 5' X 8' cargo trailer ( http://www.uhaul.com/guide/index.asp...nt=trailer-5x8 ). We loaded it with my Mom's chapel organ and a bunch of boxes of papers, pictures, and other things.

I'm in a hotel in Sweetwater, Texas, about 400 of the 640 miles of the way home. I'm not sure how heavy this cargo I'm carrying is, but the organ took two strong men to move, so it's several hundred pounds. And there are several boxes full of my Dad's old sermons, and those are pretty heavy. But I can report that I had no trouble at all towing the trailer. Starting and stopping was a breeze - you do have to take it easy, of course, as you do anytime you're hauling a trailer. But all went well.

By the way, I actually got about 22 MPG. I kept it down to 55 MPH all day, and I'm sure that helped.

Here's a picture of the trailer hooked up:

Still think it would have made more sense to rent a uhaul truck instead...

Thanx for the report, I knew you could do it. These cars are a lot tougher and more versatile than most people think.

I'm glad it worked out well for you, and that you were able to get a free hitch.
