40 MPH...What gear are you in?
I finally have my mustang tagged and titled, so I have been driving it this week, and needles to say it is completely different than my 00 6spd Celica (I get wood in this car!)
My question is kind of a no brainer, but a lot of the roads around my house are 30-40mph zones, and it seems like 40-43 mph is right between 4th and 5th for cruising speeds. While 5th rides OK if the road is completely level, it feels like the engine strains a bit under light acceleration.
Obviously this would consititute shifting to 4th, but my celica could be in 6th gear at 40-43mph and it did not feel like it was straining under light acceleration.
So what gear are you guys in at that speed?

Cruising: 4th for me with 3.55's. Knifing thru traffic if I need to: definately 3rd. Cruising in 5th is 50 MPH for me, minimum. Usually more like 55 minimum...
It sounds like you haven't wound her up yet. You need to run up and bounce off the rev limiter a few times just to feel her out. You'll be amazed how smooth this engine is up to and above 6000 RPM.

3rd so i can keep the speed. ive found that she will hold the speed better in 3rd with out hitting the gas. once i go to fourth it thinks i want to go and should be hitting the gas. but 5th is to much for anything under 50mph.

Sounds like I should be in 4th, I guess I just need some more time behind the wheel to learn how to drive her best.
One other thing that is a little different to me is some noise in the drivetrain while shifting. It is not a grinding sound as if I do not have the clutch depressed completely, but more of a light clunk from the rear of the car when I am changing gears. Any ideas?

(At 40 I am still in 4th with 4.10 gears, but I like higher RPMs.)
