I want to go aftermarket myself but I can't get past the fact that it leaves such a major gap and doesn't look OEM as one would want it:

Surely there's an aftermarket Navigation system that fills out the whole factory Double Bin chasis.

Yeah, i was looking at a pioneer one. I really like the stock one but im really not ready to pay over a grand!

I was looking into this one its real nice and Kenwood is a pretty respected brand. Still not sure tho.

Go with a Pioneer Avic model (I'm thinking about getting the D3---or whatever is cheapest!!)

I just saw a Pioneer Like-New Avic D3 that sold on eBay for $400 (+$25 shipping) Pretty cheap if you ask me...

I played around with the factory NAV system. In terms of technology it seems really outdated at this point. I would say I looks like its 5 years old. It doesnt even have a 3D point of view interface that is standard in any $200 stand alone unit.

definitely true. but the price of the car definitely didn't preclude me from having the nav in there. the dealer had two brand new black 08 GTs with red leather. one had the nav, GT appearance, polished chrome 18"s and louvers (in the sig)...the other had ambient lighting (remember not standard in '08 premiums), HID lamps, and the comfort package.

guess what? same price!

for ~$25,000, i couldn't lose...even if the nav technology isn't where it should be, i have never been misled by my unit. plus i just love the touch screen functionality for audio. absolutely no regrets here.
