Eliminating Drone - Need Opinions
#12
I have a Bassani catted x-pipe. The cats there are high-flow cats. I used to have FRPP Stinger mufflers and there was plenty of drone. So I'm saying high flow cats are not going to stop your drone.
I had 3 ideas for solutions:
1) add a Pypes mid-muffler (in addition to the catted x and stingers)
2) replace Stingers with Corsa's
3) replace Stingers with GTA's
I eliminated option 1 because I was tired of experimentation.
I eliminated option 2 because after listening to many youtubes I felt Corsas sounded great on the outside but were too quiet on the inside. And what volume was on the inside lacked depth.
So I chose the GTA route to keep some throaty sound and eliminate the drone. I haven't installed them yet, BTW.
+1 for the Bassani catted X. As far a exhaust sound goes, I'd call it a half step towards adding headers. It turned up the volume and added a raw attitude to the exhaust note. Only down side (for some) is it is just a little raspy below 2500 rpm. The rasp was barely noticable with the Stingers and a lot more apparent with stock mufflers. I'm hoping the GTAs will add enough depth to cover that up like the stingers did.

Having resonators installed is probably the best long term solution. I was actually going to get the mac mufflers until I heard about the excessive drone.

I currently have a wadded up blanket in my trunk, it didn't really do much except keep my spare tire a little warmer. I think the drone is apparent with driving style. I have Macs and the only time i notice Drone is when my Dad is riding with me, He's almost 70, so I have to drive alittle more smoothly. Course, I have a 5spd so its easy to keep out of the drone zone of 1600 to 2000 rpms. I'd say get some resonators and have them put in. I think Summit might have some.
