In my experience Summit has awesome customer service, if it turns out to be the gears give em a call quite sure they'd be willing to help you out

I have sort of a different approach to this. Are you sure you got TRUE FRPP Gears or did you get the cheaper Motive gears... Can you please post a link to exactly what you bought from Summit.

If you have Motive gears, it will take an act of God to make them not whine. Sometimes that comes in the shape of a talented mechanic.

Yeah Alldata quotes it at a $600 job. Mine was $250 from Texas Hot Rods... But that's besides the point.

WHAT GEARS DID YOU BUY!?!?!

To the OP. See if you can find a Ford dealership that is also a Ford Racing Pro Parts dealer. Not all Ford dealerships are. Check the FRPP web site. If that doesn't work, try a good transmission shop. Of couse your best bet is a Proformance shop.

Also you will need a tuner to change the gear ratio to 3:73 from your stopck 3:31 for your speedo to work correcttly. Ford dealerships can now update your PCM to a 3:73 becuase of the bullitt mustang. But they will only do it if you "know" them. Also if any Ford dealership updates your PCM you will lose the 3:73 setting. As they will use the factory setting based on your VIN. A tuner is your best bet. Mine is the XCal 3. But you should look into it. Also I paid $790 for a FRPP 3:73 gears, install, and custom tune with a XCal3 tuner. The price you paid, I'm sorry to say, you got Riped Off, IMHO.

I hope it works out for you. There should NEVER be gear nosie, and if so, it is MOST likily from the install, not bad FRPP gears.

Good Luck!

Sorry to hear.

~6 hours definitely sounds like there's a bit of fat in it, unless it includes an hour or more of easy driving for getting the break-in process for the gears at least started correctly.

It may be interesting to have shop #2 check both the backlash and the tooth contact pattern as done by shop #1 before they start pulling stuff past the diff cover apart. And take pictures of it all, dial indicator readings, dye patterns, the works.
