(NOTE: if you've got a GT and your Hurst rattles, chime in!!).

Anyway, as another posted, the rattle comes from the ball/socket. I fixed mine by inserting a piece of plastic compression hose between the underside of the ball/socket and the shift linkage. I cut it to fit such that it keeps moderately firm pressure on the ball/socket and doesn't affect shifting operation.

1 - Get under the car & disconnect the linkage from the shifter.

2 - Cut an appropriately sized section of compression hose (see dishwasher hose @ Home Depot) and slide it over the shifter end that connects to the linkage.

3 - While holding the plastic hose compressed, re-connect the linkage.

4 - Drive it & ENJOY hearing the engine roar thru the gears without that nasty rattle!

so everyone kinda skipped over this comment. can anyone confirm if it works?

I have the B&M shifter. No problems yet. Smooth and quicker shifting. Very easy install, just make sure you use locktite on the nut attatching to the tranny linkage.

I just took out mt tri axe the other night and put in my hurst. all though I liek the shift of the hurst better the tri-axe is a beast compared to it, so dam strong and the center spring in it is strong as a ****, made me put it in 3rd a few times froma roll.

anyway just installed my hurst and I had to make abracket for the back to hold it up since the tri axe eliminates it I tossed it in the arbage with stock shifter.

anybody local orlando have there stock shifter rotting in there garage? just dont want to wait for guy who I sold tri axe to send me his?

HAHAHA! Yeah, remember the old saying about "dropping pearls before swine"..? It cracks me up how people will post for months looking for a solution & when it's finally presented... they ignore it!

Then there are the guys seemingly rich enough to just toss the Hurst aside & another $300 @ MGW to solve the problem. Oh well, you can lead a horse to water..

Regardless of what others choose to do; personally I'm OVERJOYED to be able to enjoy the sound of my engine without that nasty rattle!
